I'm trying to find out about where the Israelites went and who conquered who and what times. I know that the Greeks, Assyrians, Romans and all those in between but I can't find out an out-line of what timeWhat happened to Israel after it was split then conquered?
C. 930 BC: on Solomon's death the country split in two, Israel (north, 10 tribes) and Judah (south, the rest).
C. 732, Assyria annexed part of Israel, deported many inhabitants and resettled outsiders in their place. 722 BC, they did the same to the rest of Israel. These are the so-called 'lost ten tribes'. The two-way resettlement went on throughout the 7th century. Some resettled Israelites were absorbed by the surrounding populations, others were the start of the diaspora, eg the prophet Nahum who it would seem lived in Assyria.
597, 586 Babylon, which had replaced Assyria as superpower, did the same to Judah.
538 onwards, the Persians, on conquering Babylon, allowed the
Jews to return. but archaeology and tradition agree that a lot stayed behind. What happened to Israel after it was split then conquered?
';Israel'; wasn't a country until 1948. You are talking about ancient Palenstine ruled by Jewish kings. Palenstine was conquered by Pompey the Great and was made into a Roman province (sometime around 70 BC). The Jews didn't take to Roman rule and were always revolting.
The last revolt ended with the sack of Jerusalem and the explusion of the Jews. This was in 130 AD. The Jews spread all over the world but mostly into Europe and Russia. The Muslims and Arabs lived in Palenstine from about 600 AD until the creation of the state of Israel.
