How do you grip and throw a split fingered fastball and do u throw it over the top?

Sorry have to make a point a fork ball is an entirely different pitch. What he's describing is a fork ball not a splitter. The splitter has a lot of rotation. Think two seam fastball but put your fingers on the outside of the seams. It's gripped much deeper in your hand than a fastball. You can throw it over the top or 3/4 it doesn't matter. How do you grip and throw a split fingered fastball and do u throw it over the top?
A split fingered fastball (aka a forkball, splitter, dropball) is theoretically the closest you can get to a knuckleball going 88 mph. It's got spin, but a ';dead'; spin that is slow and random.

To throw one, the way I do is to hold it tightly such that the ball touches the insides of your index and third fingers ONLY on the insides of the 3rd phalangeals (the tips of your fingers), and as little else as possible, leaving a gap of air between your finger crotch and the ball. When you throw it, snap the heck out of your wrist and elbow to get the ball out without imparting spin. The lack of contact is the same concept that makes the knuckleball work.

You can throw it overhand or 3/4; the question is getting it out of your hand without the spin. Even at 85+ mph, a ball that has no backspin will drop greatly on the way to the plate...
