Why are my kitten's claws splitting?

i clipped his claws yesterday and i noticed one of his claws have split.

my dad told me i shouldnt clip them any more because the split could cause a huge problem for him.

is this true????Why are my kitten's claws splitting?
Cats claws shed. The outter layed of the claw peels off even when they don't get clipped. Also when a cats does shed thier claws it could appear to look like a split. Just don't clip too close to the quick as that will cause bleeding and pain to the cat. You can also get advise from the vet to help you dad know it is ok.Why are my kitten's claws splitting?
My one cat had the exact same thing, there is NO NEED TO DECLAW. It's not permanent and is easily resolved.

Firstly, what are you using to clip the claws? Cutting them with ordinary nail clipperswill be one cause of them splitting. Leave them for abit, but get proper clippers, these days you can get ones that show you where you can safely cut to, and they are made for cats.

There is also diet - make sure your cat isn't eating a low-grade food, and gets enough oils, vitamins and minerals into his system.

Then there is scratching - it's vital that your cat has stuff to scratch, since not being able to do that will also be a possible cause for this to happen. It's important to give their nails the ability to shed that outer layer for claw health.
Yes, yes it is true. Listen to your father...ALWAYS! Specially when he talks about kittens, with the exception of dogs. If he starts talking about dogs, then refrain from listening.

My advice is to de-claw the kitten, but only do that after a full stomach (the kitten, not you). If you don't, he'll grow up to tear your furniture apart and resent you for all the trauma you caused him while clipping the nails all the way down to the bone marrow.
