contractors are giving me quotations, with different type of aircons. I don't know what to choose. I just wanna know the difference between the two? What's the difference between Precision Air-conditioning Units (PACU's) and ordinary split type aircons?
Cost. If it is a precision type, it will control temperature more accurately, but cost more for the controls involved. It really depends on what you want to achieve with your air-conditioner. Split units only means that the compressor/condenser is outside, and the evaporator is inside, that is all that is meant by an air conditioner being ';split';. This is good old fashioned ';jargon'; and if you don't know it, all to their good if they can get you to buy more than what you want, or need. Once you have what you want, keeping the sun off of the condenser unit outside is a good idea. Just don't have the cover to close to the unit since the fan needs space above it to move the air that is being heated up and away from the unit. Condensers are always going to get warm since this is what is making the refrigerant a liquid again. It is the heat of compression being discharged, so this is a normal event.
