How do I split my video signal from my audio (L,R) coming out of my cable instead of going through a vcr?

Is there a cheap and inexpensive way to do this. Could I possibly build it myself?How do I split my video signal from my audio (L,R) coming out of my cable instead of going through a vcr?
First of all the red and white Audio outputs do NOT contain video signals. You have to connect to the yellow rca jack for video. Your TV may have these three colors and labled input. If you use these jacks, take the remote and change the TV input to Vid 1 or L1 or Aux.
